An 18-year-old teenager was allegedly shot dead by security staff of several Chinese illegal miners in Abrokofe, a village in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region.
Two more people were injured in the event.
Rainbowradioonline.com has learned that the incident occurred on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.
According to the information available, the victims went to the site to work.
The deceased has been named as Kofi King Arthur.
He was apparently shot in the chest and died on the scene.
The two injured victims, Joseph Tawiah and Albert Oppong were shot in the thigh and lower back, respectively.
They are receiving treatment at the St John of God Hospital at Sefwi Asafo.
Members of the community claim they are not permitted to enter the mining site on other days, but on “Breaking Days,” when the Chinese miners are not working, they are permitted to search for gold.
However, security personnel at the site opened fire on them on Wednesday, killing one and injuring two more.
