The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana has urged the government to promptly dismantle all tollbooths in the country or resume the collection of road tolls.
The Association is concerned about the increasing number of accidents reported at various abandoned tollbooths.
Nana Owiredu, Deputy National Secretary of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, lamented the situation in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm.
He bemoaned the lack of measures in place to control traffic flow at the various booths since they were decommissioned more than a year ago.
The Kasoa and Motorway toll booths have experienced the most dangerous and life-threatening accidents, with another incident occurring at the Tema toll plaza on September 3, 2023, he noted.
He said the government is urged to urgently demolish or decommission all tollbooths, as per the Finance Ministry’s budget statement for this year.
”Failure on the part of the government to do any of these may cause us to carry out the demolition ourselves, as we can’t afford to put our lives at risk in the name of contributing to national development,” he warned.
