Opanin Amissah, 70, allegedly committed suicide by hanging at Assin Kushia in the Assin North District.

It is unknown what motivated Mr. Amissah to commit suicide.

However, Nana Okyere Si-Abour, the Gyaasehene of Assin Kushia, who talked to the media, believes the old man died as a result of economic hardship.

He added that the individual was in debt to multiple people and was unable to pay, which could have led to him killing himself.

According to him, the deceased, while not from the area, had been living in the town for nearly ten years, working menial jobs such as weeding people’s farms for money.

He said the old man was unable to meet his commitment to weed the farms for which he had collected money owing to illness, and that to accommodate the farmers’ pressure, he chose to commit himself.
