A member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Delanyo Agbe, has petitioned the party to reconsider the appointment of Dr. Omane Boamah as NDC Director of Election and ICT.
In his petition, he claimed that Dr. Boamah was not qualified enough to be appointed in that capacity.
”I acknowledge the party’s intent to diversify leadership, it is my belief that this particular appointment requires careful review due to concerns regarding Dr. Omane Boamah’s competence in the areas crucial to this role.”
Among other reasons, he posited that Dr. Omane lacked the expertise, credibility and specialised knowledge for the roles assigned to him.
”Lack of Expertise: Election management and ICT are critical components of modern political campaigning. Dr. Omane Boamah’s medical background, while noteworthy, does not seem to align with the intricate technicalities of information and communication technology and the complexities of electoral processes.
Risk to Party Credibility: Elections are a fundamental pillar of democracy, and the credibility of the process is paramount. Appointing an individual without substantial experience in the field could undermine the party’s credibility and tarnish its reputation if any issues arise during the election process.
Need for Specialized Knowledge: In a rapidly advancing technological landscape, the role of Director of Election and ICT requires specialized knowledge to safeguard against potential threats such as hacking attempts, voter data breaches, and ensuring secure and transparent elections.”
