Two individuals have been arrested and charged with the alleged murder of Maame Mra, a 28-year-old woman from Sefwi Dwinase-Akurase in the Western North Region.
The two were dragged before the Sefwi Wiawso Magistrate court presided over by His Worship Eric Baah Boateng.
The suspects include a pragya rider and a police officer.
They have been remanded into lawful custody and are to reappear on 9 October 2023.
The accused persons’ lawyer requested bail, but the court denied it.
The deceased’s family threatened to cause chaos if the accused were granted bail.
The young lady had mysteriously died in an accident.
Earlier reports suggested that the deceased was involved in a motorbike accident after visiting her police boyfriend at Sefwi Mpomam.
However, some some claimed that the victim had a heated argument with her boyfriend after they returned from Mpomam to Dwinase, and that her police boyfriend subsequently stabbed her.
The grandfather of the deceased (Naa Mra) and also a linguist at Sefwi Wiawso traditional council, Nana Kwasi Bafeli in an interview with Media expressed joy that the suspects were refused bail.
“If the suspects had been released on bail, we would have taken the law into our own hands and unleashed mayhem on them,” he claimed. We don’t want anything fishy to happen in this situation. We want the suspects punished and imprisoned for their crimes.”
