The Minister of National Security, Kan Dapaah, has sued the convener of the #FixTheCountry Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, for alleging that he [Kan Dapaah] met him in 2021 and allegedly offered him $1 million so he would stop his activism.
The convener had alleged that the minister, in the company of other individuals, offered him the said amount and promised him a position in government so he would stop his activism.
The minister has described the allegation as false and sued the lawyer, saying the claims are defamatory.
He is also demanding the “recovery of the sum of ten million Ghana cedis (GHC 10,000,000.00) as general damages, including aggravated and/or exemplary damages for defamation for the words uttered by the defendant.”
The Minister is also demanding an apology for and retraction of the words complained of, as well as “a perpetual injunction restraining the defendant from repeating similar or other defamatory words against the plaintiff.”
Meanwhile, Barker-Vormawor says his lawyers advised him to file a complaint at the Office of Special Prosecutor.
He had threatened to release the audio recording on the internet this week.
