Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has encouraged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to engage with Alan Kyerematen to rescind his decision to contest as an independent candidate.
The lawmaker posited that the former trade and industry minister, in an address where he announced his resignation, spoke as if he were still in love with the party.
He asserted that, as far as he was concerned, the best approach was for the party to delegate some people to engage with Alan.
He said “If the party interacts with him and he [Alan] maintained that he was not interested in returning, then the party would have some it part.
He made the remarks while speaking to Kwabena Agyapong on Frontline on Rainbow Radio (87.5 fm).
The MP, who is also the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, claimed that he told the presenter, “I will admonish the party to go and engage Alan and convince him to return to the NPP.”
“I am optimistic that we will be able to speak with him about returning.” This has happened before, and we were able to address it. We should hire him if at all possible. We should send a delegation to him. If we try that method and he is adamant, we will have done our best.
Meanwhile, he has advised the party and members to maintain discipline and ensure party unity so their quest to break the 8-year-old jinx will be possible.
