The Wa Circuit Court has sentenced a 35-year-old man, Rashid Ahmed, to 71 years of imprisonment on 10 counts of defilement.
The convict had pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him, but he was found guilty by the court.
The young man, popularly known as Rashid Anaata, a master of ceremonies, was found guilty of having sex with seven minors (girls), contrary to Section 101 of the Criminal Offences Act, Act 29.
The court was presided over by His Honour Jonathan Avogo.
The prosecutor in the case, principal state attorney Saeed Abdul-Shakuur, had amended the convict’s previous twelve counts of defilement and filed five separate dockets.
There were fifteen defilement accusations and five attempted defilement cases on the dockets.
Twelve victims first reported the defilement crimes, which had been perpetuated by the offender.
Four more people were proven to have had several sexual penetrations by the suspect while the investigation was ongoing.
Dr. Alhassan Mohammed Mubarak, a medical officer at Wa Municipal Hospital, acknowledged the attacks in court on August 23, which resulted in the convict’s sentence.
Dr. Mubarik confirmed that all of the patients had lost their hymens.
