A 65-year-old woman and her son are accusing officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) of assaulting them.
The woman, Auntie Esther, and the son, Samuel Yako-hene Dogbe, alleged that they were seriously wounded after the ECG National Monitoring Team numbering about 20 allegedly assaulted them at Adade, a suburb of Gomoa Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District in the Central Region.
The woman complained that she nearly lost her sight while her son sustained some wounds.
Narrating her ordeal, she said the officials from the ECG stormed the residence and asked them to step aside so they could conduct a monitoring exercise.
Madam Esther said the statement by the ECG officials brought a little misunderstanding between her son and the ECG staff, but in an attempt by Samuel Dogbe to leave the house to supply his lobsters to his customers, the ECG officials blocked the gate and started attacking him till the blood started oozing from his mouth and some parts of his body.
She added that she wasn’t spared after she attempted to rescue her son; she was slapped multiple times until she fell into a gutter.
Madam Esther expressed her disappointment in their action because they hadn’t made an illegal connection.
The two victims were rushed to Kasoa Polyclinic, while the matter has been reported to the police pending investigation.
They have demanded justice and questioned why ECG officials would misconduct themselves.
The woman particularly slammed her attackers and wondered why they could subject her to such an attack.
“I am a law-abiding citizen. I have not engaged in any form of illegal connection, so why should they come here and attack me? This is unfair, and I am calling on authorities to deal with the matter. I have all my receipts here, and so I am wondering why they will come here and beat me up.”
