You’ve no business building a needless cathedral when you’ve got no dialysis machines – NPP Man

Former Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), lawyer Obiri Boahen, has stated that the National Cathedral is an unnecessary project.

He claimed that the project was not a priority that his party should have pursued.

He stated that the main priority would be to invest in projects that would facilitate the construction of dialysis clinics across the country to assist individuals in need of such services.

He remarked that if your country does not have a dialysis machine at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, then have no right to build a national cathedral.

According to lawyer Boahen, the resources spent to build the cathedral could have gone towards the development of hospitals, motorable roads, or railway projects.

“If every NPP member will rejoice over the cathedral’s construction, I will not do that,” the outspoken politician added. The money spent on the cathedral’s construction could have gone towards other essential projects.

“The project should not have been our main focus. The funds may have been used to build railways. We could have extended railways from Accra to other locations. We are recording multiple traffic accidents, and the money could have been utilised to address those as well. I told them to abandon the project. It is not a priority. With this project, we could have built multiple hospitals. When you live in a country without dialysis machines in our big hospitals and learn that we are constructing a cathedral, you are concerned.”
