Monica Akua Gifty, 27, was arrested by the Awutu Ofaakor District Police Command and turned over to the Kasoa DOVVSU Command after reportedly stealing a 6-month-old baby.
On Friday, October 20, 2023, the suspect allegedly stole the baby and fled the scene before being apprehended.
Oheneba Ademah, reporting on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, stated the suspect and the child’s mother lived in the same compound.
He stated that the mother of the baby, Obaa Ruth, placed her baby in the care of a 12-year-old girl on the day of the incident so she could answer nature’s call.
The suspect, however, allegedly snatched the baby and fled the scene.
When Obaa Ruth returned and inquired about the baby, the minor informed them that it had been abducted by the suspect.
She was phoned and informed her mother and other folks in the region that she was now in Tema.
The suspect continued to toss them around and change her location.
She also demanded money from the mother and her relatives before returning the kid.
According to the reporter, the baby’s relatives were contacted again today, Tuesday, October 24, 2023, but the suspect kept changing her location.
When another call was placed later, a juvenile responded, alleging the suspect had asked her to withdraw money for her.
The family and the police monitored the suspect’s location, which led to his arrest.
When asked why she allegedly stole the baby, she informed the police that her fiancee refused to give her money, so she snatched the baby and told the fiancee she had given birth and that the baby was sick and needed money to be taken to the hospital.
