Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed strong optimism that he will emerge as the presidential candidate in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary currently underway.
He had however posited that the outcome of the process is in the hands of God.
He made the remarks while speaking with journalists after casting his ballot.
“I’m reasonably confident of winning,” Bawumia said after casting his ballot at the NPP Headquarters, adding, “But it’s in God’s hands.”
Dr. Bawumia is number two on the ballot paper.
The other candidates are Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and former Mampong MP Francis Addai-Nimoh.
A total of 203,439 delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are expected to participate in the presidential primary today, Saturday, November 4, 2024.
The presidential primary is being held in all 275 constituencies in the country.
The contest is being held for delegates to vote for a presidential candidate to represent the party in the 2024 general elections.
436 delegates would be voting at the head office of the party in Asylum Down, Accra.
The Ashanti Region will have 34,987 delegates vote, while the Ahafo Region will have 4,204 delegates vote. In the Greater Accra Region, 39,134 delegates will vote. Volta has 11,995 delegate numbers.
Voting centres have also been established in each of the country’s 275 constituencies.
