The police in Assin Fosu have arrested a 19-year-old identified as Comfort Aidoo for allegedly faking her own kidnapping.
Comfort Aidoo, according to the police, connived with her boyfriend to fake a kidnapping to demand a huge ransom from her parents.
The then-victim, now a suspect, according to her mother, called a neighbour at Breman Adumanu in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District to inform them about her kidnapping.
The mother said they paid the ransom through a mobile money number provided by the guy who claimed to have kidnapped their daughter, but the story of the kidnapper and their daughter was not in the sink, hence the decision to involve the police.
“We heard the call about our daughter’s kidnapping, and we wanted to inform the police right away but didn’t want to lose our daughter, so we managed to raise money to pay him through the mobile money number and later let the police track the person because we used a Ghana Card to register.”
“So after paying, he told us they would drop her at the roadside, so we went for her, but upon seeing our daughter, we realised that her story was very different from that of the supposed kidnapper,” the mother told Rainbow Radio Accra.
