The state has dropped all previous charges against Nana Appiah Mensah nicknamed NAM 1 and has brought new charges in court today, November 17, 2023.
Yvonne Atakora, the Director of Prosecution, disclosed that a change had been made to some of the figures (amounts involved) in the case against the former CEO of the collapsed gold company, necessitating the filing of fresh charges.
She emphasised that withdrawing the existing charges and filing fresh ones against NAM 1 is in the best interests of the country.
The case has been postponed until December 4, 2023, to give NAM1’s lawyers time to analyse the additional charges.
The adjournment was requested by lawyers for NAM 1 and it was agreed upon by the state attorney.
Meanwhile, the presiding judge has directed that security measures at the court entry be strengthened.
This was after lawyers for the accused told the court that the PRO of the team had been attacked following the prior court session.
