Accommodation of Clerk of Parliament was sold in 2015 and not 2019 – Lands Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, has provided clarifications about the reported sale of the accommodation of the sitting Clerk of Parliament.

A statement from the Parliamentary Service some days ago revealed that the official accommodation of the sitting clerk of Parliament at Cantonments was sold in 2019 under Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor to a private developer, while other properties assigned to Parliament suffered a similar fate.

However, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, while reacting to the statement from the Parliamentary Service on the floor of Parliament, said his checks have revealed that the facility was sold in 2015.

“Mr. Speaker, as I said, UNESCO land has not been sold and is in the hands of UNESCO. In many cases, when they make the claim that it was sold under a particular administration, the records do not show that. When you find the records and make inquiries, you get to find out that it was not true.”

“Not too long ago, it was said that the accommodation or residence of the Clerk of Parliament was sold in 2019. But, Mr. Speaker, I want to submit to this House that my checks at the Lands Commission suggest that the said property was sold in 2015 and not 2019. The then Minister of Works and House gave an offer to a private developer in 2015,” Samuel Abu Jinapor said.
