President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated Liberia on its successful elections.
He has also urged new emerging democracies to follow its democratic model.
He praised Liberia for holding an election that resulted in the election of a new leader.
This represents a strengthening of democratic frontiers.
President Akufo-Addo in a Facebook post on November 24 said, “Through the peaceful exercise of their sovereign and democratic right to elect their own leaders, the people of Liberia have strengthened the frontiers of democracy for emerging democracies on the continent to emulate. The consolidation of democracy in Liberia, in the wake of Liberia’s painful civil war, continues to gather pace.”
He further congratulated the newly elected president for his victory and also commended the outgoing President George Weah for exhibiting “statesmanlike concession of defeat.”
He expressed hope that the President-elect would follow in the footsteps of his predecessors, thereby expanding the partnership between Liberia and Ghana.
President-elect Joseph Boakai, the Unity Party’s presidential nominee, won the elections, defeating incumbent President George Manneh Weah.
