Haruna Iddrisu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South, has requested that the House probe claims that the administration registered over 600 delegates for this year’s Conference of Parties (COP28).

After learning that 600 Ghanaian delegates were attending the ceremony, the former Minority Leader demanded an investigation.

According to data given by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Ghana’s delegation to COP28 in Dubai has climbed to 618 from 350 last year.

The delegation is made up of 95 people on the official party list and 523 people on the party overflow list.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Monday, December 4, 2023, the lawmaker could not understand why a huge number of delegates would go in the name of Ghana.

In light of our economic woes, he couldn’t comprehend why such a figure would be sent to the COP28.

“Mr. Speaker, with this economic distress, how can Ghana lead a delegation of 618 persons? Are we shouldering the economic gain and hardship of the Ghanaian? And Mr. Speaker, I see a delegation of the president here at COP28… I am demanding that a committee looks at this,” he said.
