Concerned Citizens of Ghana has urged that the Ghana Revenue Service Commissioner-General, Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, be removed from office.
If the GRA boss is not dismissed, the organisation has threatened to picket at the GRA’s headquarters on January 15, 2024.
According to the group, the GRA boss has exceeded the permissible age for holding public office.
They believe that he needed to retire immediately.
The group’s spokesperson, Charles Akowuah, accused the Commissioner-General and Commissioner responsible for the Ghana Revenue Authority’s Support Services Division, Ms. Julie Essiam, of exceeding the legally authorised 60-year period for government officials.
“Our background checks reveal that both Rev. Ammishaddai and Ms. Julie Essiam have chosen to stay in office beyond the age of 60 despite their contracts being renewed until 2021 and this brings into question the adherence to the established retirement policies within the GRA.”
“We are expecting about 1,500 young men and women to occupy the office of the GRA right after January 15, 2024.”
