Manasseh Addison Sackey, 34, is running for re-election in the Teberebie electoral region of Prestea, Western Region, after an Assembly member perished in a river linking Aklika.
The sad tragedy occurred on Monday, December 4, 2023.
Teacher Obour was a teacher at Teberebie M/A Junior High School.
He reportedly died while on his way to campaign in adjacent villages.
It has also come to light that the occurrence is comparable to that of a former assembly member from the same constituency who ran against him four years ago and met the same fate two weeks before the polls.
According to additional information, the deceased was travelling with roughly five other people.
Despite his campaign crew’s cautions to avoid the travel, the deceased believed it was a short distance and that he could return quickly.
In the middle of the river, the boat carrying the teacher and five passengers capsized.
Three of the travellers managed to return safely.
However, Manasseh and another gentleman drowned.
The lifeless body of Manasseh Addison Sackey was recovered around 6:00 p.m., four hours after the tragic incident occurred.
The body has been deposited at the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital mortuary.
