The Ghana Police Service, on Monday, December 11, 2023, received 200 motorbikes from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) as part of the company’s effort to bolster Police operations nationwide.
ECG handed over the motorbikes to the Police at a brief ceremony held at the National Police headquarters.
The donation was attended by Members of the Police Management Board and some staff of the ECG.
The Board Chairman of ECG Mr. Keli Gadzekpo who led the Management of the company for the donation also pledged a further 800 motorbikes to be delivered in batches.
He noted that the donation would help the police with their visibility activities, especially as the holiday season approached.
He stated that increased police visibility will deter crime and announced that ECG would challenge itself to increase the gift from the initial plan of aiding the police with 200 motorcycles to 1,000 motorcycles.
“Our workers suffer quite frequent attacks on their persons as they conduct their duties, going from house to house and so forth,” he said.
Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Inspector-General of Police, thanked ECG Management for the donation.
“In the past, we have been working separately without much collaboration and partnership and it is our hope that this journey that we have begun will take us to a level that we will continue to work together to make Ghana more peaceful, orderly and secure,” he said.
