Amma Busia, the late Kofi Abrefa Busia’s sister and former first vice-chair of the New Patriotic Party, has died.
Madam Amma Busia was a member of the NPP’s Council of Elders until her death.
She is said to have died today (Tuesday, December 12, 2023) following a brief illness.
During Ghana’s Second Republic, Ama Busia served as Prime Minister.
Amma Busia attended Wenchi Methodist School and Methodist Middle Girls’ School in Kumasi for her primary schooling.
She received her teacher training at the Komenda Training College.
She went into exile in 1959 with her brother Kofi Abrefa Busia, moving to the United Kingdom.
In the UK, she studied institutional management and catering at Regent Street Polytechnic in London.
Amma Busia’s son, Obeng Busia, confirmed her death to Asaase News, saying she died peacefully in hospital at the Nyaho Medical Centre in Accra in the early hours of Tuesday (12 December). She was 87 years old.
