A Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament Dr. Clement Apaak has taken Education Minister Dr. Osei Adutwun to the cleaners for interpreting review to mean cancellation.
Dr. Apaak who is also the MP for Builsa South says it is shocking that a man with a PhD could get so low politically and make such unfortunate interpretation.
Speaking at the 63rd anniversary of the Ghana Muslim Mission in Kumasi last weekend, the minister highlighted the policy’s benefits before warning that any efforts to revise it would be detrimental.
He was reacting to former President John Dramani Mahama’s promise to review free SHS in his first 100 days as president.
“President Akufo-Addo and his Vice, brought Free SHS and they have provided the needed support to make it a success and bring relief to parents,” he said.
“If anybody says they will review Free SHS it means one thing. That person wants to cancel it and we won’t allow that,” he stated.
In response, Dr. Apaak lambasted the minister, adding that we should ask the institutions that issued him degrees, including the doctorate, to have them revoked.
He called it an insult to education and a political plot to deceive Ghanaians.
He asked him to stop lying because Ghanaians have lost interest in the government’s lies.
He said “It’s only PhD holders in NPP who define REVIEW as meaning CANCEL. We ought to question how they obtained their doctoral degrees, and must consider petitioning the institutions which awarded them doctoral degrees.
For the avoidance of doubt, REVIEW means a formal assessment of something with the intention of instituting change if necessary. On the other hand, CANCEL is to decide that an organised event will not happen, or to stop services that you no longer want.
How could persons purporting to have earned the highest degree, PhD, say REVIEW means CANCEL. Ghanaians have no appetite for lies this year.”
