Hundreds of Ghanaian youth took part in the annual Citizen Check Ghana Peace Walk to help raise awareness of peace before, during, and after the 2024 general elections.
According to the organisers, the tension and tribal sentiments that have reared ugly heads in our political scene influenced their decision to hold a peaceful awareness walk.Cladded in their peace walk campaign t-shirts, youths from Accra, Tema, Cape Coast, Tamale, Kumasi, and other parts of the country made their commitments to ensuring they don’t fall victim to electoral violence as witnessed in some parts of the world.
The group, led by leaders of some political parties, opinion leaders, and dignitaries, including former and current Tema mayors, marched through some of the principal streets of Tema to convey their message of peace.
Addressing the press, Vice President of Citizen Check Ghana, Seth Rampa Pobee, said their main focus was to defuse the tribal sentiments and political tension being witnessed in the country ahead of the 2024 parliamentary and presidential elections.
“The reason why we organised this walk is to quench the heat in the system because of the hardships of economic conditions, which create political tensions, especially in an election year.”
“Two Northerners are the two leading candidates in an election in this country for the first time, and we decided to bring both parties together for them to know that belonging to different parties does not make you enemies,” Seth Rampa Pobee said on Rainbow Radio Accra.
