Captain of the Black Stars, Andre Ayew believes the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is the ‘hardest tournament’ compared to the world cup.
The captain made the remarks at the farewell dinner organised for the team before their departure to Ivory Coast where the tournament is being held.
“This tournament is even harder than the World Cup,” he said during the team’s farewell dinner with Ghana’s president, Nana Akufo-Addo on Tuesday night.
At the same event, President Akufo-Addo encouraged the team to remain dedicated in order to win the cup.
He urged the players to go to the tournament with a can-do spirit.
He was of the view that it is possible for them to accomplish the long-awaited dream of bringing home the trophy.
President Akufo-Addo indicated that the AFCON trophy had eluded Ghana for more than four decades.
However, he was optimistic the current squad could go to the tournament and win.
The Black Stars will be making their 25th appearance in the competition since its inception in 1957 and haven’t won the trophy since last doing so in 1982.
