Ghanaian supporter allegedly arrested for attacking Chris Hughton after Black Stars defeat

A Ghanaian supporter has reportedly been arrested by the Ivorian police for attacking coach Chris Hughton after Ghana’s opening game defeat in the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars on Sunday, January 14, 2023, suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde which came as a shock to many Ghanaians who were highly rooting for a victory.

The defeat led to many venting their frustrations, but one unidentified supporter in Ivory Coast reportedly attacked the coach, whom he blamed for the defeat.

Ghanaian journalist Saddick Adams reported that it took the intervention of the people around to save the coach from the angry reporter.

“One member of the Ghanaian supporters in Abidjan has been arrested for an attack on coach Chris Hughton at the team’s hotel.”

“It took the intervention of some Ghanaian diplomats who were around to save the coach. The unidentified man has been handed over to the Ivorian Police,” Saddick Adams reported.
