A group of Ada residents residing in the United Kingdom have donated some relief items to affected victims of the dam spillage.
This was after weeks of appeals on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM in Ghana and Rainbow Radio 92.4 FM in the United Kingdom.
The items that were donated included household items, clothes, bedding, oil, detergent, soaps, and toiletries, among others.
The Union presenting the items indicated that they mobilised and raised resources from members as part of efforts to help provide some relief to the affected residents.
The items donated were shipped from the United Kingdom by Samamiah Shipping Company, a leading shipping company in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Frank Agbloe, the leader of the Ada residents in the United Kingdom, stated that they decided to raise resources to donate to the victims of the flood situation.
According to him, the donation was part of their gesture to provide relief to the affected victims.
He added that the donation would go to people who have been affected.
He revealed there is a list of affected persons, and they would work on that list in collaboration with Radio Ada.
“We have boxes of sardines, towels, rice, bags of maize, and other items for those affected. We are not a big organisation, but we do a lot of work and philanthropic activities. Whenever we hear of any problem, we offer support. One of our aims is to care for the Ada people in the United Kingdom and those in Ghana. This is not the first time we have done this. We have done several other things to support people in need.
“We always do it whenever something happens. But the flood situation is a major issue. We’ve got a list, and we will follow that list. Our system is to help those who lost their houses first. Then the rest of the victims will follow.”
Another resident said, “We are all Ada residents residing in the United Kingdom and have realised that several of our people have been affected, so we decided to donate these relief items to the affected victims.”
The company, as part of its corporate social responsibility, began the appeals and encouraged Ghanaians living in the UK to donate towards the initiative.
According to a representative of the company, Isaac Ammiah, it was prudent that they assist with this initiative as it forms part of the core values.
This would not be the first time the company has led an initiative to support disaster victims.
When the twin fire and flood disaster hit residents in Adabraka, the company, in collaboration with Rainbow Radio, led a campaign to donate relief items to the victims of the disaster.
