The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Divine Otoo Agorhom, has said the region will do all it takes to retain all the 14 seats it currently has in parliament and snatch others from the NDC.
He said that the party, which held 21 seats but lost seven to the NDC, is now prepared to win more than 14 in the 2024 general elections.
He said some seats are traditionally NPP, including Ablekuma Central, Okaikoi North, and Tema East, among others.
These are constituencies that, for a very long time, we’ve been able to hold onto.
“In 2020, several issues arose, causing us to lose seven constituencies.” If not for these issues, we would have retained the 17 seats. So Adentam was holding it, and we also had Madina, La Dadekotopon, Ledzekkoko, and others.
However, while we would like to keep all 14 seats we currently have and work to reclaim some of the seats we lost, the BDC is holding the seats we currently have. So we will do our best to protect our seats and win more. ”
He was speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm with host Kwabena Agyapong.
Meanwhile, he has described the upcoming legislative primaries in constituencies with sitting MPs as crucial.
He said we already have sitting MPs, and most of them are seeking reelection. All those in Greater Accra are seeking reelection. So if there is an incumbent and someone also wants to take over, it is not an easy one, and that is the difference between that and the one we conducted in our orphan institutions”.
