The Kumasi Traditional Council has summoned Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, for allegedly making disrespectful remarks about Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The Council has ordered the NPP leadership to make Mr. Boasiko come before it next week to answer questions about comments he made during the vetting of Manhyia South parliamentary candidates.
On Monday, January 22, 2024, the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, and the party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, led certain regional party officers to the Manhyia Palace to address the matter.
It was discovered that the chairman, also known as Wontumi, was ill, hence his inability to come.
The party requested an extension of two weeks from the council.
The Council gave the party a week to ensure that Wontumi honours the invitation.
According to the Council, it took note of comments made by private legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw about the chiefs during a Wontumi Television programme.
The Council, presided over by Bantamahene Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, demanded that Chairman Wontumi, Maurice Ampaw, and the management of Wontumi Radio and TV appear before it next Monday.
The party has also distanced itself from Maurice Ampaw’s alleged comments about the Chiefs on the television show.
