Chairman Wontumi, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, has appeared before the Kumasi Traditional Council.
Chairman Wontumi was given a week’s ultimatum to appear before the Council for the alleged disparaging comments he allegedly made against the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Asante kingdom.
He was accompanied by some prominent party members, including Majoroyy leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, to Manhyia Palace.
The other personalities who accompanied him are Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah, Chieftaincy Minister Asamoah Boateng, National Chairman of the NPP Stephen Ntim, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, NPP National Treasurer Dr. Charles Dwamena, and various other NPP regional executives.
Chairman Wontumi reportedly had an altercation with the Kokosohene, Nana Kwaku Dua, during the recent vetting of parliamentary aspirants in the Ashanti region.
Chairman Wontumi, prior to him honouring the summons, denied insulting the Asantehene.
Speaking on Wontumi Radio, Chairman Wontumi described the allegations against him as false.
“I have a lot of respect for the Asantehene and the Asante Kingdom and will never do anything to run this kingdom down. All these allegations are not true; they are pure lies. I cannot do that. Anybody who wishes to lie can do it,” he said.
