Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu expressed readiness to provide assistance or guidance to all new entrants in Ghana’s parliament.
The MP representing Suame’s constituents stated that despite his retirement from parliament, he will continue to assist as needed.
The MP, who is also the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, announced in 2022 that he would not be seeking reelection in 2024.
True to his word, the lawmaker did not file to contest in the parliamentary primaries of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, he has served to the best of his ability and used his God-given talents and skills to serve his party, Ghana, Africa, and the world through his parliamentary duties.
The MP speaking in an interview on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM said that although he was no longer going to be in parliament, he was prepared to offer any form of guidance to new persons who would be elected to be in the House on the ticket of the NPP.
Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu added, “I will no longer be in parliament, but that will not stop me from engaging in party activities. I will continue to work and support the party.
I am prepared to offer assistance to all those who will be elected as candidates for the party. I will provide my support and use my skills, expertise, and knowledge to help them so they will also perform well in parliament. I will do this willingly,” he added.
He was responding to the reason why he had decided to exit the house considering his years of experience.
“I have served the NPP from the constituency level, and I have served the party in the Ashanti region. I have served the party in Ghana. I have served in the parliament of Ghana. I have served the government of Ghana.
I have served the African parliament in the fight against corruption. I have served the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. I have been an Executive Member of the African Region for about 15 years. I have also served as the Vice Chairman of the Commonwealth Parliament. At the global level, we have various parlairmbts from all the countries forming the Inter-Parliamentary Union headquarters in Geneva with four working committees. I have served as chairman of the committees for two separate terms (2 years each).
And so I have served Ghana’s parliament, the ECOWAS parliament, Commonwealth the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Commonwealth Parliament.
