Elder Arhin, an Elder of the Methodist Church in Ekumfi Ekrawful, allegedly set fire to his niece’s room due to a rift that has been ongoing for several years, with the chief of the area trying to resolve the issue but to no avail.
The Methodist Elder is suspected of committing the heinous act by repeatedly claiming to have purchased most of the items his niece is enjoying in her room, especially when he witnesses the victim talking with a man.
Rebecca Arhin, the victim, told Rainbow Radio’s Eric Annan in an interview that she went out on Tuesday at 9:30 p.m., but when she arrived, she observed smoke emanating from her room and hurried inside, only to find her room on fire.
She immediately cried for aid, prompting neighbours to come out and offer her assistance, but regrettably, all of her goods, including her fan, television set, fridge, chairs, and others, were burned beyond recognition.
Some eyewitnesses who raced to the site to save the situation reported that the suspect first barred them from extinguishing the flames.
They said that as the Methodist Elder saw the growing crowd rushing in to put out the fire, he quickly took a few belongings and escaped.
Meanwhile, Hon. Zachariah Quansah, the Assemblyman for the Ekumfi Ekrawful Electoral Area, urged the public to help the victim with everything they could because she had lost all of her valuables in the fire.
He further stated that a report has been filed with the police for an investigation, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the offender.
