The overlord of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Abukari II, has advised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Mahama to ensure a continuous reshuffling of appointees if he is elected as president.
The traditional ruler believes this would help the former president to assemble the best of human resources to run his government when voted to power.
The Dagbon overlord said this in a speech read on his behalf on February 5, 2024.
Yaa-Naa further asked the former President to be determined to build a legacy rather than amass wealth for his family and friends.
“When you get the nod from Ghanaians, do not shy away from reshuffling your team to get the right ones on board by merits and competence and lay off even loyalists but misfits who will only churn out mediocrity for your government,” he said.
“This applies especially to your cabinet because they in reality rule you and the country. That will be a mistake no Ghanaian will forgive you if you happen to be the chosen one.”
“I believe you are not coming to make more money for your family but to leave a legacy that your children will not only be proud of but will pave the way for them wherever they find themselves in the future when you are long gone to your maker,” he added.
Mr. Mahama on his part commended Ya-Naa for his contribution to restoring peace in Dagbon.
Mr. Mahama praised Yaa-Naa for collaborating with local authorities to tackle armed robbery and pledged to finish the delayed water treatment facility.
“I am disappointed that with all the work we did in terms of the Yendi Water Supply Project, eight years after we left power, Yendi still has no water. I want to assure you that if your son becomes President, you will not be thirsty anymore,” he added.
