Lawyer Obiri Boahen, former deputy general secretary of the ruling NPP, has criticized Vice President Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team for being insufficiently diverse.
Although he admitted that the campaign team was formidable and strong enough to secure victory for the presidential candidate of the NPP, it could have been better with a diverse representation of people.
He suggested that the campaign team could
have been expanded to include all stakeholders, especially farmer groups, fishermen, and faith-based groups, particularly African religious groups, among others.
He stated in an interview on Frontlineline on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM that this approach would be better for the kind of politics in Africa.
He argued that it would cure any form of discrimination and promote inclusion.
According to him, the kind of politics we practice in Africa is one that everyone would want to be part of in order not to feel excluded or isolated.
He was responding to suggestions from some individuals that the campaign team members of the Vice President were excessive and could have been less and more effective.
However, lawyer Boahen shot down the suggestion, stressing that he would have even preferred a campaign team of 400 people representing diverse backgrounds.
He spoke with Kwabena Agyapong on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM.
“Some have claimed that the campaign team members of Bawumia are too many, but I disagree with these assertions. I believe he could have had a team of 400 members who would be selected from diverse backgrounds to help execute the campaign.
We are in Africa, and our type of politics must move beyond ethnicity, religious backgrounds, and tribe. I believe people from diverse backgrounds can be part of the team. We should appoint the team in such a way that no one feels excluded. It should be grass-roots in nature and even include people from African traditional religions. We could even have the National Chief Fisherman as part of the campaign team. We could consider a retired judge. We can expand the list in such a manner that when anyone complains that they have been left out, we will just point them to a representative from their side.”
I must stress that the campaign team is formidable, strong, and efficient in executing an agenda for victory for Dr. Bawumia. When you look into the crystal ball, Dr. Bawumia will deliver if he is elected. He will deliver on his promises and be an effective president. He will be our next president, and that is the most important thing.”
