Multiple award-winning journalist Prince Kwame Tamakloe of Rainbow Radio International has been selected among many journalists across Africa for this year’s fact-checking fellowship by Dubawa.
He will join other journalists selected across West Africa to participate in the 2024 edition of the Prof. Kwame Karikari Fact-Checking Fellowship. This year’s fellowship, which is the sixth edition, will cut across anglophone West Africa with support from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and will provide fellows with a valuable opportunity to engage in a rigorous four-day training exercise conducted by very high-profile media professionals across the world.
A four-day training started yesterday to prepare the selected journalists for the fellowship and will end on February 29, 2024.
The fellowship will enable Tamakloe and his selected colleagues to acquire the ability to integrate information fact-checking and verification into their reporting through specialised training, close mentoring, and editorial support.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Investigative Journalism, Dapo Olorunyomi, charged the fellows to promote democracy through fact-checking information. He said there is information warfare, and therefore journalism must be based on factual principles, which are pivotal to the success of democracy in any country.
This year’s fact-checking fellowship, which will officially commence on the 1st of March to the 30th of August 2024, is inspired by the urgent need to amplify media literacy and empower journalists to spread the gospel of information verification to grassroots communities, which are targeted constituencies for political, social, and cultural misinformation and disinformation in the region.
