The analyst and lecturer argued that the president ought to resign or be removed from office following his comments that his vice president cannot be blamed for the economic crisis and challenges confronting Ghanaians.
He noted that what the president said in his State of the Nation address was in sharp contrast to what he told Ghanaians in 2016 about Bawumia.
He said during the electioneering year in 2016, the president touted Dr. Bawumia as the economic messiah and the one with the magic wand to help the country transform.
However, if Ghanaians are demanding accountability from him, the president has extricated him from blame just for cheap political points.
The president in his address claimed that “There is no ambiguity about where the buck stops, when it comes to responsibility for what happens in the government. It stops with the President, he or she has ultimate responsibility. It would be an unwise President that would pretend to have all the answers and refuse the advice of his officials, but the fact remains that the President holds the executive power.
The Cabinet, and the Ministers of State all act in an advisory manner. Of course, a member of the government might take an idea, be it generated by the President or the official or a committee, and turn it into a huge success, and the honours would be claimed or shared where public perception falls. But, ultimately, the President is responsible, and, therefore, takes the credit or the blame for whatever happens in his or her government.”
Reacting to this in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, the lecturer said the president has not been honest with Ghanaians and lied his way through power.
The best he said the president can do is resign together with his vice president or be removed.
“Let me state categorically that President Akufo-Addo should have resigned by now. He should have resigned because, in 2016, he told us that he did not have a holistic understanding of the economy, and that was why he chose Bawumi as his running mate so he would be the one to lewd that charge.
He told us that Bawumia was the one going to take charge of the management of the economy. He told Ghanaians that Bawumia would be the one to ensure that we have sustained economic growth, stability, and fiscal discipline. But on Tuesday, he made us aware that Dr. Bawumia was not in charge of the economy, and so we should blame him (Nana Addo) for the economic crisis.
If you lacked the technical knowledge . to manage the economy and you promised us that Bawumia would be in charge, why then did you prevent him from doing his job? If Ghana were a company, Akufo-Addo would have caused underproduction. He needs to account for stewardship and needs to be sacked.”
Mr. Emmanuel Nti indicated that the president appears to be like the mouse that bites you and tends to blow air around where it bites.
On record by the president touting his road record, he said President Akufo-Addo and his party told us that we don’t eat roads and we don’t eat school buildings when former President John Mahama was touting his achievements.
But today, the president is the one touting that he has achieved a lot in these sectors.
“However, the bottom line is that Ghanaians are aware of the difficulties and crisis they are going through. They know the cost of electricity and water tariffs. The struggles Ghanaians are going through have proven that the SONA delivered by the president is not a true reflection of our situation.
