A political analyst, Piesie Osei Anto, has opined that it would not be surprising if former President John Dramani Mahama settles on Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the 2024 presidential election.

The analyst said he not would be surprised because “you do not change a winning team.”

Speaking on Nyankontpn Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, Mr. Osei Anto indicated that the NDC claimed to have won the 2020 election, but the process was rigged in favour of the NPP.

“And so if, per the claim of the NDC, they won the 2020 election with the woman as Mahama’s running mate, then you do not change a winning team.”

He also noted that the former education minister did not disappoint former president John Mahama when he chose her as the running mate.

To him, the professor pushed the NDC’s votes from the over four million it garnered in the 2016 presidential election to over six million in the 2020 presidential election.

He said “She also helped the NDC increase its parliamentary seats from four to sixteen in the Central region, making her efforts in 2020 remarkable.

“Secondly, the woman did not disappoint former President Mahama when he settled on her in 2020. In 2016, the NDC garnered over four million votes. In 2020, the running mate pushed their votes to over 6 million. She is also respected because she has distinguished herself. She has demonstrated political discipline, and there is nothing bad that people can associate with her. She had also learned her lessons from 2020.”

The analyst went on to state that Mahama has already marketed her, and it will be easier for him to settle on her for victory in 2024.

He referenced how, after the 2020 elections, Mr. Mahama kept sending her to represent him at public functions.

“That was a clear indication that he was going to settle on her as the running mate for the 2024 general elections,” he added.

When asked if he agreed with those who claimed the former minister had not been visible after the 2020 elections, he said “That is false”, adding that “whoever says that is peddling lies and does not live in Ghana. What kind of job do they want her to do? The woman was visible and present at all NDC functions. She represented former President John Mahama at public functions he could not be present at. So people claim she has not been visible after the 2020 elections; I don’t know what they are talking about or what they want her to do.”
