The World Bank Group has indicated that it will continue to have a longstanding relationship with Ghana despite the passage of the Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill.
The Ministry of Finance recently issued a statement advising the president not to assent to the bill since it may have repercussions for Ghana particularly, our support from the World Bank could be affected.
The Ministry warned that Ghana could lose US$3.8 billion in World Bank financing over the next five to six years if the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill popularly known as the Anti-Gay Bill becomes law.
However, a spokesperson from the World Bank has declared that it does not recognise the recently passed bill as a reason for altering any form of support to Ghana.
According to the spokesperson, the partnership between the World Bank and the Republic of Ghana remains productive.
“The World Bank Group has a longstanding and productive relationship with Ghana,” the spokesman said.
“The Bill has not yet been signed into Law. We generally do not comment on Bills”.
