A suspected thief has been lynched at Maakro, Suame Municipality, Ashanti Region.
The incident was said to have occurred at 3 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.
The deceased, Kwame George, also known as Kwaadei, was claimed to have stolen a car battery, resulting in his death.
According to reports, Kwame George was between the ages of 40 and 45.
In an interview with Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, a unit committee member for the area, Madam Ernestina Amoah, stated that she learned about the incident and took action in the absence of the assembly member for the area.
A resident who pleaded anonymously stated that they heard dogs barking at the area of the incident, prompting his wife to ask him if they heard human voices.
“I tried to see what was happening through my window but couldn’t see from there, so I rushed to the scene after hearing the deceased shouting, “Save me, save me.”
He added that when the mob saw me, they run away.
After discovering that the deceased, Kwame George, had died, I called the Suame divisional police headquarters to report what had occurred,” he continued.
Some other residents also revealed that they knew the deceased Kwaadei from Ahwerewam, a suburb near Mankranso in Ahafo Ano, south-east of the Ashanti Region.
According to them, the deceased was a loading man at Techiman Station in Maakro.
The Suame Divisional Police Command had taken the body to be deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital’s (KATH’s) mortuary.
