The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced that it is closely working with entities that deducted the Electronic Transfers Levy (E-Levy) during the internet disruption to refund the wrongful deductions to subscribers.
In a statement issued by the GRA, it indicated that the charging entities shall be responsible for reimbursing customers for any E-Levy charges that were incorrectly applied.
The reimbursement according to the GRA would be done after it completes its process of refund requests.
The GRA, explained that the interruption in internet connectivity impacted the real-time routing of electronic transactions to the Electronic Transfer Levy Management and Assurance System (ELMAS).
It said the measures being implemented will ensure that E-Levy is levied only on eligible transactions, even if there is a delay in routing due to the internet disruption.
”The attention of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has been drawn to issues of wrongful charging of E-Levy on some electronic transactions following the recent disruptions in internet connectivity in the country”, it pointed out.
“The GRA acknowledges that the internet outage has had an impact on the real-time routing of some electronic transactions by Charging Entities to the Electronic Transfer Levy Management and Assurance System (ELMAS)”, it further explained.
“We therefore wish to assure the public that the following steps have been taken to mitigate these challenges to ensure a seamless E-Levy collection process.”
