Ghanaian politician and entrepreneur Akwasi Addai Odike argues that Ghanaians are becoming emotionally invested, displacing competent, qualified, and skilled individuals to manage the economy.
The politician expressed concern over the increasing prominence of partisan politics in the country, where political leaders are engaging in illegal mining and securing the freedoms of their associates, even when they have violated the law.
He said these things do not bother the majority of Ghanaians, and even when you are a genuine person who wants to cause a change, they look at you like a sheep.
He stated that Ghanaians are looking for a politician who is willing to share money with them before voting for him or her, regardless of whether the politician is corrupt or not.
”Ghanaians want politicians who are willing to share money to buy their votes. They don’t want somebody who will give them a sustainable life,” he said in an interview on Rainbow Radio 92.4FM, UK.
Odike noted that ”hypocrisy is also destroying the country”, adding that ”with money, even a chief can change the mind. He doesn’t care about the welfare and well-being of the people. When you give them money, they will shower praise on you. At the moment, Ghana is not a functioning democracy. Everybody is walking around with their parochial interests and not the national interests. Ghana is not developing. It is retrogressing.”
