A campaign team member of Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu, has shot down calls from the campaign team of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for Alan Kyerematen to retract and apologise over his call for Christians to vote for a Christlike personality or Christian since Ghana was denominated by Christians.
Alan Kyerematen has called on Christians to elect a ‘Christlike’ president in the December 2024 elections.
The former Trade and Industry Minister emphasised the importance of having a leader who shares the religious faith of the majority of the people.
Addressing a congregation during Easter celebrations, Mr. Kyerematen said, “So as a predominately Christian nation and as Christians, it is our responsibility to ensure we elect a Christian leader who is also a Christlike leader.”.
He has widely been condemned and asked to apologize.
However, Solomon Owusu, a campaign team member of the Movement for Change, says his boss will not retract or apologise.
He told Kwabena Agyapong on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM that Alan Cash, as he is affectionately called, stated facts and not fiction.
He explained that there is no contrary fact to the truth that Ghana is denominated by Christians.
He also referenced the recent census to support his argument.
“Contrary to assertions that Alan was engaging in unhealthy religious politics, he was only admonishing Christians to see him as their own and vote massively for him. When you listen to the tape, what exactly did Alan say that was false? Is it true Christians have dominated the country?
The answer is an emphatic yes. It is a fact, and so Alan did not peddle falsehoods. He even went ahead to admonish them to elect a Christlike person. If you are not an anti-Christ, you will rather commend Alan than ask him to apologize.”
He went on to slam the NPP for deceiving the public for votes and now living large at the expense of the people.
“When you were coming into office, you were singing ‘Ewurade Kasa’, but today, you are singing ‘Nana Nana Oye Winner’.
He stressed that Alan will continue to stress on this issue and admonish Christians to vote massively for him since he is one of them and Christlike.
“We will go to the Presbyterian Church; we will go to the Pentecost Church and all other churches to stress this message. The campaign team members of Bawumia are hypocrites. Recently, Bawumia met with Muslims and told them he was one of them and so they should vote for him and that it was the time for a Muslim to be elected President, and yet Ghanaians and the campaign team found nothing wrong with that, and so why are these hypocrites coming after Alan and d mandi g a retraction and an apology?”
