The deplorable Bukom AstroTurf is currently undergoing restoration.
The once sandy Bukom Park which was changed into a present-day AstroTurf football pitch, served as a sleeping ground for some residents and a grazing ground for goats and sheep.
A visit to the area by Rainbow Radio two years ago showed that some residents in the area use the pitch as their bedroom, whereas sheep and goats also graze on the pitch.
Several portions of the turf had worn off, with the remaining portions changing colour from green to black.
The pitch deteriorated as the grass lost its touch and turned dark in colour.
When Rainbow Radio visited the pitch on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, work was ongoing smoothly.
The restoration project is under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP).
It is been implemented and financed by the Coastal Development Authority (CODA).
The contractor for the restoration project is Oxygen Capital Group Limited, and they have three months to complete the restoration project.
The first project was also financed by CODA under the one-constituency, one-million-dollar project and maintained by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).
The park had a FIFA standard eleven-aside 52 by 96-metre football pitch (astroturf), wash/changing rooms, spectator stands, and floodlights, among others.
