The 16-year-old girl, who was allegedly married to Nungua Traditional Council chief priest Gborbu Wulormo, has been placed under the protection of the Police Service and the Gender Ministry.
The Ministry of Information issued a statement on April 5, 2024, outlining the following information.
The statement said officials, including Gender Minister-designate Dakoa Newman, visiting the girl, who is reportedly in good health.
The minor has received comprehensive support, including counseling, medical attention, and the provision of two caregivers to ensure her well-being, the statement said.
The statement has confirmed the appointment of a case worker to ensure strict adherence to child protection protocols.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has gathered statements from Gborbu Wulormo Shitse and the child’s parents as part of the ongoing investigation.
It added that discussions have been held by the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs with the Nungua traditional authorities to secure their full cooperation in safeguarding the child’s best interests.
