As part of efforts to modernize Ghana’s legal system and enhance the delivery of justice, Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo has unveiled the LEADing Justice framework, supported by the government’s commitment to digitalization.
LEADing Justice, launched by Vice President Dr. Bawumia, embodies the visionary strategy of Chief Justice Torkornoo for the Judiciary and the Judicial Service.
The framework places significant emphasis on leveraging digital technologies to streamline processes and improve access to justice across the nation.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of digitalization, Dr. Bawumia commended previous initiatives such as the Electronic Case Tracking System and the e-justice system for their positive impact on Ghana’s judicial landscape.
He reaffirmed the government’s steadfast support for the judiciary’s transformational journey and called upon all stakeholders to rally behind Chief Justice Torkornoo’s vision.
The introduction of LEADing Justice marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s pursuit of judicial excellence and efficiency.
By embracing digital transformation, the judiciary aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and the overall quality of justice delivery.
The Vice President said it was refreshing to note that one of the key components of LEADing Justice, is digitalization, which is crucial to the advancement of the judicial system and the delivery of justice in Ghana.
Having launched the Electronic Case Tracking System for the criminal justice sector in 2018 and also witnessing the positive impact the e-justice system, which was launched a year later, is having on the administration of justice, I am delighted that digitalization is a key component of this strategic vision of the Chief Justice.
Chief Justice Torkornoo expressed optimism about the potential of LEADing Justice to drive positive change and elevate the standards of the legal system.
She emphasized the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the framework.
LEADing Justice sets a bold precedent for leveraging technology to overcome challenges and strengthen the rule of law in Ghana. As the nation embarks on this transformative journey, the judiciary remains committed to upholding justice, safeguarding rights, and fostering societal progress.
The ‘LEADing Justice Initiative’ which stands for Law, Ethics, Access, Due Diligence and Digitalisation will be the blueprint to pave the way for the Judiciary and the Judicial Service towards meeting the justice demands of the 21st century and beyond.
The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfrey Yeboah Dame in a remark said an efficient justice delivery system guarantees respect for human rights and assures prosperity for its citizens.
He was optimistic that this initiative will reduce delays in the conclusion of cases among others.
The National President of the Ghana Bar Association, Yaw Acheampong Boafo pledged the Association’s commitment to ensure the success of the initiative.
He appealed to the government to allow the Judicial service to retain 100 percent of their Internally Generated Funds to enable the service to be well resourced for its mandate.
