Ghanaian para-athlete, Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe has called for the dissolution of the Ghana Paralympic Committee and the subsequent election of new executives since their tenure in office expired some nine months ago.
Speaking to Rainbow Sports on Nyankonton Mu Nsem, he stated that the current president should not hold himself as president because his mandate as president has not been renewed since his tenure expired.
He was responding to the decision by the leadership of the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana (NPC Ghana) to indefinitely suspend him and six other athletes.
He was suspended along with the six others over what the leadership termed false publications, negative public utterances, and unwarranted letters to foreign missions and embassies, international sports bodies, federations and organisations, government institutions and officials, as well as media houses both local and international.
It is the conclusion of the leadership that the actions and activities are not only an infringement and flagrant breach of the NPC Ghana constitution, inimical to the development and promotion of para-sport, but have also brought the NPC Ghana and its elected officers, the Paralympic Movement in Ghana into disrepute and international ridicule and embarrassment.
The statement said the unjustified actions and activities by the suspended athletes have not only violated the principles and values of the constitution and the Paralympic Movement but have also had adetrimentally damaged impact on the confidence, trust, and respect that it members, partners, and stakeholders within the sporting fraternity have accorded them all these years.
But Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe denied these allegations, describing them as umeritorious.
He further stated that, in collaboration with other stakeholders, they will be embarking on a demonstration that will see them submit a petition to the Sports Ministry.
“Samson Deen, in accordance with our laws, is no longer the President. His tenure has ended. I would say he is in an acting capacity. We are supposed to elect new leaders every four years, but Samson Deen has not organised a single annual general meeting. The letter they issued has not captured what I did wrong, and so I am waiting for them to disclose why they have suspended me.
I will encourage Ghanaians to join us on Friday to demonstrate and disclose to you what is happening. Samson is no longer the President; he is in an acting capacity, and so he cannot hold himself as President.”
He stated that they will copy the petition to the presidency, the National Sports Council, and other agencies.
