President Akufo-Addo on Monday, April 15, 2024 launched a new comprehensive National Service Policy.
The policy sets out the broad framework for transforming the National Service Scheme from just merely mobilising and deploying young graduates into various sectors of the Ghanaian economy, into becoming a world-class institution, which shapes service personnel for success in the professional world.
This policy document represents a paradigm shift, providing direction for the scheme’s delivery and aligning it with government agenda to ensure that service personnel are adequately prepared for the transition from school to the workforce.
He said there are some initiatives which have been outlined in the National Service policy document which will elevate the National Service Scheme.
“[The policy document will] implement an MSME accounting programme to help formalise the informal sector and also form specialised partnerships to promote tourism in Ghana through the NSS support programme.”
Again, it will help “expand experimental agricultural programmes for national service personnel under the Sekyere Kumawu economy enclave with support from the Ministry of Finance under the Ghana Care Obaatanpa Programme and Agri-Impact Ghana,” President Akufo-Addo said.
He further announced that a metric application system will also be implemented to improve efficiency and eliminate waste and redundancy.
He said that ICT hubs will be established to provide training for service personnel in IT solutions tailored to meet the needs of communities across Ghana.
“These interventions will solidify the National Service Scheme’s position as one of the best in West Africa and the Africa region for deploying service personnel. I urge all stakeholders to support the scheme in achieving its objectives.”
“I am confident that with the implementation of the new policy, the national service scheme will play an even more vital role in shaping the future of our nation and empowering our youth to fulfil their potential.”
