PSG defeated Barcelona in the UCL quarterfinals, with Mbappe and Dembele’s outstanding performances being the focal points.
The duo did a man’s job on Tuesday. night UEFA Champions League return fixture by coming back from a goal down to mesmerise Barcelona by four (4) goals to one (1) at the Nou Camp.
Dembele facing his former club for the first time at their home grounds after departing a few months earlier was going to be a tall hurdle, especially when they were trailing after the first leg at the Parc des Princes.
Barcelona, through Raphinha, opened the score line with a sensational goal on the 12th minute mark, sending a blistering noise through the roofs of the Nou Camp.
The cheerful mood of the home fans came to an abrupt halt when Araûjo received a matching order in what was arguably a bizarre infringement.
Despite the boos and shouts,
Dembele and his teammates stayed relentless and took advantage of their one-man advantage over the home team to open their score line in the 40th minute.
Vitinha added a goal in the 54th minute, and Kylian Mbappe did what he does best by opening his own account in the 61st minute through the spot.
He cemented their victory with another strike in
the 89th minute, sending the hopes of the home fans into utter disbelief.
This saw the away team clinch a 5:4 aggregate victory over the Brogranas. This can pass as revenge for what transpired in 2017 when Barcelona came from a 4–2 deficit to beat PSG by 6–1 in what is said to be one of the best comebacks in the history of the UEFA Champions League. In the post-match interview, Luis Enrique, the coach of PSG, thinks the red card against Barcelona was a bit unfair.
“For me, it was very unfair, but we didn’t change the way we played. I didn’t see the action of Aaujo to be a bookable offence.”.
PSG will be meeting Dotmund in the semi-final. Barcelona will be travelling to Santiago Bernabéu to face Real Madrid in their El Classico return fixture on Sunday.
