A forty-year-old man has allegedly committed suicide at Assin Bosomadwe in the Assin South District of the Central Region following a threat by his wife to divorce him.
The couple has been married for nine years and has two children.
Kwaku Mensah, a professional mason, drinking spot operator, and farmer, died after consuming paint that failed to work and topped it with weedicide to end his life.
The uncle of the deceased, Nana Kyei Barfour, who is the Nifahene of Assin Bosomadwe, confirmed the incident.
He narrated that there had been a protracted misunderstanding over a suspected infidelity issue between the couple, in which the wife decided to leave the marriage since all attempts to resolve the matter by family members proved unsuccessful.
The available information reveals that the wife has reportedly left the marriage four times.
The husband, feeling the pain of his wife’s exit from the marriage, decided to commit suicide as a preferable solution.
The uncle disclosed that he received a distress call around 8 p.m. on Tuesday that the nephew, widely known in the area as ‘Alee or Wompiepia’, had consumed weedicide and paint and had gone unconscious.
The youth of the town rushed him to the Abura Dunkwa District Hospital for medical attention, but he passed on in the process at about 11 p.m. on the same day.
