The Ghana Union of Traders (GUTA) has demanded the truth surrounding the current energy crisis, aka dumsor, confronting the country.
The National Welfare Officer, Ben Yeboah, said the erratic power supply is having a negative impact on their members, especially those in the printing and production sectors.
According to him, Ghanaians, especially business owners, are going to face serious challenges due to the dire situation.
Ben Yeboah, speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, said the demand for the timetable was a step in the right direction, and since it will help them plan.
When questioned if they are patient with the NPP over the energy situation despite their hostility against former President John Dramani Mahama, he disagreed, stating that they have been consistent in their criticism of this administration over challenges confronting us.
He said that under the era of Mr. Mahama, they were vocal about the various challenges that confronted the country and have done the same under this government.
“We weigh and examine all forms of issues because if you don’t take care, people will misconstrue our activities as political. Between 2014 and 2015, we spoke a lot about the challenges that confronted the country, including the one facing the economy. We had to tone down in 2016, so it would not sound like we wanted the government out. We endured 2016, but we were very critical of their government from 2013 to 2015.
The same way we have been critical of this government. We have held several press conferences and released several press releases on various economic issues. But Ghanaians are pretending we have not been critical of this government on a lot of issues. We have closed down our shops. We raised several issues last year, and yet people have forgotten. We do not want people to have the perception that we want to push the government out.”
