Climate Communications and Local Governance-Africa (CCLG-Africa) has demanded a 60% reduction in plastic products.
CCL-Africa wants the United Nations and Africa, especially Ghana, to push this agenda.
Mr. Kofi Don-Agor, President of CCLG-Africa, says leaders ought to push this agenda and release a treaty on it since it will help reduce the negative impact of plastics on the environment.
He said the group is embarking on a local sensitization programme to ensure that the public understands the need to protect the environment.
He indicated that the call for a reduction in the use of plastic products is not the only thing they are championing; they want the environment to be a conducive place for everyone.
Appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said members of the CCL-Africa remain committed to advocacy, education, capacity building and dissemination ofinformation on climate change and Environmental matters at the local level.
CCL-Africa is a network of mediaProfessionals and environmental expertsdedicated to the pursuit of climate change and the environment.
The objective of CCLG-Africa is to, among others, disseminate information on climate change at the local level, build the capacityof climate change mitigation andenvironmental protection activists andpromote corporate responsibility andenvironmental sustainability.
Mr. Kofi Don-Agor told host Kwabena Agyapong that they are embarking on a serious campaign, and we want everyone to join us.
“When the environment is conducive for all of us, it will enhance our lives. Collectively, we want to champion this campaign at all levels, from the communities to our districts and all other levels. We have a responsibility to protect the environment. We need to keep our environment clean and do things that will bring dignity not only to ourselves but to the earth.
The jurisdiction where you find yourself belongs to you, and you need to protect the place. There is a need for us to collectively protect and preserve the environment. When we protect the earth, it will also treat us well.
Mr. Don-Agor added that they will also advocate effective natural resource governance and promote environmental protection programmes in Ghana and Africa.
